The elegant can be hard to shop for: they’re typically very particular about what they like and, many intimidatingly, even much more certain about what they don’t. searching for gifts for these amazing couples and trendy singles can be a hair pulling experience. So I was thrilled when I discovered the book Louis Vuitton: 100 Legendary Trunks (2010 Abrams).
The book is filled with much more than 800 images of the sought-after designer creations, from steamers and tea cases to library trunks and toiletry kits, as well as the stories of their creations and an insider’s peek at the secrets of making a LV trunk.
Favoured by everyone from adventurers to aristocrats, the LV trunk has long been a fashion statement for those on the move. I’m not a big fan of lots of logos, but when these pedigreed pieces travel into rooms, the results are typically glamorously global. So, I went on the hunt for pics of them in haute homes.
A 1921 LV advertising slogan stated, “Show me your luggage and I’ll tell you who you are.” Tommy Hilfiger’s living room proves the statement. Tommy has always been a little wild — a bold blend of classic, sexy and masculine that in some cases comes together and in some cases not.
Here’s a very similar piece, photographed by Todd Selby in the Louis Vuitton family home. Here, it reads old world, refined and …. expensive.
This is my preferred look. Stacked and topped with a tray, the leather accents and worldly vibe bring vintage style to this easy diy set-up — something your elegant pals will certainly appreciate.
